San Diego, CA – June 3, 2010. ALT Software has announced an agreement between ALT and Channel One International that enables ALT to provide ATI Mobility Radeon™ X1400 and ATI Radeon™ E4690 graphics processors, DO-178B certifiable graphics drivers, and long-term GPU component availability to aerospace and defense manufacturers. ATI Radeon E4690 from AMD (NYSE: AMD) is a high-performance graphics chip designed specifically for embedded computing environments and is being made available from Channel One as an industrial rated component. ALT will guarantee 20+ year component availability of the ATI Radeon E46901 through its partnership with Channel One International, which specializes in the management of high value component distribution programs for mission critical technology customers.
“The aerospace industry differs from other markets in terms of component availability requirements,” said Lee Melatti, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Channel One. “Where the consumer market is typically characterized by thousands or even millions of component sales within a three to five-year product life cycle, aerospace manufacturers tend to require components in relatively low volumes throughout an aircraft service life that can span over two decades. This collaboration between AMD, ALT Software and Channel One reflects our commitment to work together to provide products and services that address the long-term needs of our mutual customers.”
This turnkey embedded graphics solution includes ALT’s highly successful embedded graphics driver software for safety-critical aerospace and defense systems. ALT’s drivers support a variety of graphics platforms and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), including OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL SC (Safety Critical) and embedded X11. Also offered is a DO-178B certification package that includes a complete set of planning, development and testing documentation as well as all certification artifacts required for FAA and EASA regulatory approval. Real-time operating systems (RTOS) supported include Wind River VxWorks and VxWorks 653, Green Hills INTEGRITY and INTEGRITY-178B, DDCI Deos, and proprietary RTOS’s. Supported CPUs include both x86 and PowerPC platforms.
“ALT Software has been providing device drivers and system integration services for ATI Radeon GPUs to the aerospace and defence industry for well over a decade,” said Darryl Parisien, President of ALT Software. “This new agreement is a customer-focused evolution of our product and service offering that answers the needs of our mil-aero customers by combining high quality hardware and software with component lifecycle management services and making all these elements available through a single source.”
“ALT Software and Channel One have established themselves as trusted global suppliers of embedded graphics solutions for ATI Radeon GPUs being deployed in avionics systems,” said Richard Jaenicke, Director of Embedded Client Business at AMD. “AMD is happy to have them supporting the ATI Radeon E4690, which offers three times the performance of AMD’s previous generation embedded GPU2 and a multitude of features and functionality that anticipate the long-term needs of our embedded customers.”

1. Channel One will manage supply of ATI Radeon E4690 for the 20+ year commitment, including supply after production of the part has ceased.
2. Performance is based on the comparison of ATI Radeon E4600 (2601 in HDR/SM3.0) to ATI Radeon E2400 (690 in HDR/SM3.0) using 3Dmark06 tests run in the similar system configuration: MSI K9A2 Platinum (790FX, SB600), AMD Athlon X2 7850 (2.8 GHz), 2 GB DDR2 800MHz 5-5-5-12, Video Driver: 8.612 RC1 (Catalyst 9.5), Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1 Note graphics components of 3DMark06 are insensitive to system configuration when there is sufficient frame-buffer size.
