Black Duck Software announced its 2009 open source ‘Rookies of the Year’ list. Working from a list of over 19,000 new projects launched in 2009, Black Duck evaluated project popularity using a scoring system that awards points for the number of releases within a project, the number of developers involved, and the number of web sites linked to the project. After auditing its findings and normalizing scores, Black Duck determined the top 10 Rookie projects.

Black Duck Software, today released analysis of data from its KnowledgeBase which looked at language usage, determined by counting lines of source code across all open source projects. The analysis shows static programming languages losing share to dynamic languages.

Black Duck Software analyzed our KnowledgeBase of 200,000 open source projects and found 779 that are specifically aimed at health care. We took a look at the breadth, momentum and potential of the open source movement to significantly streamline health care IT.

Leading code search engine Koders.com published data showing a surge in popularity of the Ruby scripting language as evidenced by language-specific searches on the site.
