SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – May 21, 2008 – EarthLCD has integrated Lua scripting language capabilities into their ezLCD-10X series of programmable color TFT LCD Modules. Lua is a powerful embedded scripting language that adds further flexibility to the ezLCD-10X Series product, which speeds development time for products requiring a graphical user interface (GUI). Lua combines simple procedural syntax with powerful data description constructs based on associative arrays and extensive semantics, making it ideal for configuration, scripting and rapid prototyping. Lua combines speed and power in a portable or embeddable platform making EarthLCDs ezLCD-10X module series suitable for a wide range of applications including game devices, mobile, and embedded systems.

“With the Lua scripting language, ezLCDs are now able to replace more complex embedded PCs and complicated operating systems for embedded systems and applications looking to add touchscreen graphical user interfaces,” said Randy Schafer EarthLCD CEO. “This expanded programmability exceeds the flexibility of operator interfaces and PLCs at a much lower cost. Our goal is to put touchscreens in every application possible. A state of the art, low power 32 bit embedded processor Flash SD card storage allows outdated PC and SBC based user interfaces to be replaced and use 75% less power.”

The proven performance of EarthLCDs ezLCD-10X Series color TFT LCD Modules, when combined with Luas cost base, speed, and strong integration capability with other languages saves time and resources for engineers needing to integrate a graphical user interface into a product design. Available in four sizes, 3.5”, 6.4”, 8” and 10.4”, the 10X Series incorporates an LCD, controller, LCD driver circuitry, processor, and graphic controller – all necessary components for fast GUI integration. EarthLCDs easy-to-use PC based software utility allows the user to quickly upload bitmaps, customized fonts, icons and graphics. Existing embedded products can add a GUI or status display LCD quickly and with little change to the system. With the bulk of the electronics in the virtually turn-key module, OEMs can focus on the specific product requirements without redesigning graphical hardware and software.

“Adding the ability to program the ezLCD using Lua scripting language greatly expands the flexibility of the 10X series of programmable displays,” explains Schafer. “Our goal of providing fast, powerful and cost-effective solutions are the primary reasons that Earth has been able to build a successful 14 year track record of working with hardware design engineers. Compatibility with Lua is just one more step towards becoming the “Go To” source for LCD integration in the embedded, medical, and industrial control marketplaces.”

The ezLCD-10X Series features integrated touch screen, USB 2.0, true Rs-232, SD/MMC, SPI communication ports, and RoHS compliance. Depending on model, displays range from 320×240 Color TFT to 800×600 Color TFT and +12 ,5 or 3.3 Volt supply voltage. Pricing for the ezLCD-10X Series with Lua compatibility is from $150.00 in production quantities, with delivery in 4-6 weeks.
