VxWorks RTOS delivers 64-bit support

As embedded performance requirements continue to soar, designers must find ways to increase the raw computing power of their systems to satisfy the needs of demanding applications such as high-definition medical imagery or complex radar signal analysis. Supporting the transition to improved processing power for high-performance designs, Wind River recently updated their popular VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) to provide 64-bit computing capability in both data and code execution. VxWorks 6.9 enables rapid processing of large data structures and boosts multi-core processing performance in both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) and asymmetrical multiprocessing (AMP) configurations. Software development on VxWorks 6.9 now bundles the Intel® C++ Compiler and the Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives (Intel® IPP) with the Wind River Workbench tools suite. This VxWorks release also provides enhanced networking capabilities, including new security features and increased Internet Engineering Task Force Request for Comments (IETF RFC) support.
