Steve Sakoman was most recently vice-president of software technology at Apple Computer. Prior to that, he had been chief products officer at PalmSource after its acquisition of Be, Inc. A co-founder of Be with former Apple executive Jean-Louis Gassée, Sakoman had led development of the original BeBox and eventually served as the company’s chief operating officer.

From 1984 to 1990, Sakoman was director of CPU development managing the hardware group, which was responsible for the Apple II and Macintosh product lines. In 1987, he formed the team behind the Apple Newton to realize his vision of the world’s first PDA.
