Hectronic, a specialist in embedded PC development and manufacturing, has announced a platform for rapid development of compact and powerful x86-based embedded systems.
The H4089 is a mini-ITX (170mm x 170mm) carrier board that comes with complete board support packages for embedded XP, Windows CE and Linux[
]. The board, which features one standard and one mini-PCI slot, is designed for use with the Hectronic’s H6036 PC104 module or its H6171 ETX CPU module based on Intel’s Pentium M and Celeron M processors.
The platform therefore offers designers a choice of both processors and operating systems in a compact, high-end embedded format. It is complemented by comprehensive, versatile and robust firmware and software to minimize development time.
The H4089’s mini-ITX form factor enables the board to be used with off-the-shelf power supplies and SFF enclosures for prototyping. The choice of ETX or PC104 means that systems can be optimized for lowest cost or smallest form factor, and a rich choice of peripherals makes it easier to built and evaluate prototypes before the custom carrier is finalized.
Other features of the H4089 carrier board include two serial ports, a 10/100Mbit Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 ports, two PS/2 connectors and connections for LVDS, DVI and CRT. There is also a compact Flash socket, IDE connector, ATX power connector, AC97 audio control connector, and a fan connector. LED decoding is available on Port 80.
The H6036 is a high-performance, low power PC104 CPU module that incorporates all standard PC motherboard functions. It is based on either the Intel Pentium M or Celeron M processor with a choice of 855GME or 852GM graphics controllers.
The H6036 is the best choice for COM module applications requiring a scalable balance of power consumption and performance in a compact and rugged form factor with robust board-to-board interconnect. The PC104 form factor with PCI connectivity is unique to Hectronic.
The H6171 ETX CPU module is a single board computer that utilizes the Intel Celeron M / Pentium M CPUs with 400MHz FSB and Intel 855GME/852GM embedded chipset with integrated LCD graphics, serial ports, USB support, disk interface and watchdog. 10/100Mbit Ethernet, an AC97 audio controller and flash BIOS add to the flexibility of the board.
It is an economical alternative to the H6036 for applications where small footprint and maximum ruggedness are less important.
Technical support is provided directly from Hectronic’s development team in Uppsala, near Stockholm, Sweden.
The development platform is available now. For 10+ quantities, the H4089 costs 275 USD, the H6036 469 USD, and the H6171 391 USD. The CPU module prices are with an on board Intel 600MHz Celeron M ULV with 512KB L2 cache.
