IMEC to Demonstrate Wireless Bio-Sensor Healthcare Systems at IEEE EMB Conference

Improving medical monitoring and diagnosis through wearable bio-technology devices is IMEC’s aim at Engineering in Medicine & Biology Conference.

Leuven, Belgium – August 13, 2009 — IMEC and its research affiliate, Holst Centre, will showcase wireless bio-sensor systems for monitoring and diagnosing medical conditions during the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Conference (EMBC) taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 2 – 6 (www.embc09.org/index.html).

IMEC will present a monitoring system designed to identify sleep disorders such as apnea. The miniaturized wireless system allows patients to wear the device in the comfort of their home environment and eliminates the need for current cumbersome, stressful diagnostic methods that are expensive and performed in a clinical setting.

IMEC will also demonstrate its new wireless ECG platform. Worn as a necklace, the system monitors long-term cardiac performance and allows patients to remain ambulatory and continue their routine daily activities while under observation.
