Nokia Siemens Networks Joins the Multicore Association as an Executive Board Member

Nokia Siemens Networks and The Multicore Association — May 1, 2008

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — May 1, 2008 — The Multicore Association™, a global non-profit organization focused on developing standards that help speed time to market for products that involve multicore implementations, today announced that Nokia Siemens Networks is the newest member of its executive board.

"As a leader in the network telecoms market, Nokia Siemens Networks makes a notable addition to our membership," said Markus Levy, Multicore Association president. "Nokia Siemens Networks' experience in this industry will help influence the hardware and software vendors to define and adopt standards that will help to promote better development environments for multicore solutions."

Multicore refers to the combination of two or more independent cores into a single package composed of a single integrated circuit (IC) or multiple ICs packaged together. Multicore represents the most significant trend in processor technology and will be adopted by the majority of system developers seeking higher performance capabilities. The Multicore Association is working to enable the widespread adoption of multicore processor implementations by setting standards for how systems will be utilized and programmed.

"Nokia Siemens Networks recognizes that multicore will be adopted in many of our next-generation products," said Stephan Scholz, CTO of Nokia Siemens Networks. "As a member of the Multicore Association, we are looking forward to helping define new common interfaces that will benefit a significant portion of the multicore market space."

The Multicore Association provides three levels of membership, with executive board, working group, and university members. The executive board helps determine the overall direction of the organization. Working group members are eligible to work on any of the working groups. University members may participate in any of the Multicore Association's ongoing development work, for which current projects include multicore virtual machine standardization, multicore resource management, and debug functionality to support the recently released Multicore Communication API (MCAPI).
