Zhone Secures Mobile Access Equipment Product Line with Mocana Technology
SAN FRANCISCO – October 07, 2008 – Mocana, a software company delivering comprehensive device security solutions, today announced that Zhone Technologies (NASDAQ: ZHNE) a global leader in multi-service access equipment for VoIP, IPTV and Ethernet will use Mocanas NanoSSL and NanoSSH embedded security solutions to secure Zhones MALC product line. The tight integration of Mocanas ultra-optimized NanoSSL and NanoSSH packages will ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the information traversing these access lines, without compromising the performance or throughput of Zhones best-in-class devices.
Zhone's product portfolio meets the diverse needs of service providers, scaling from very small to very large deployments and features the companys multi-access line concentrator (MALC) multi-service access platform (MSAP) family. The companys MALC products are optimized for delivering voice, data, and high-definition video services over a pure packet access network. The MALC enables service providers to deploy a wide variety of business and residential services in a single platform, from legacy interfaces such as POTS or ISDN to new network architectures based on GPON and Active Ethernet. Using Mocana, Zhone assures its customers that information services delivered over the MALC product line remain uninterrupted, secure and ultra-fast.
“Maintaining strong security throughout their networks is of utmost importance to our customers,” said Eric Presworsky, chief technology officer of Zhone. “Incorporating Mocanas security technology into our platforms allows us to assure our customers of complete, trusted control over access to the management layer of their network, which would otherwise represent a potential vulnerability.”
Since access equipment, such as Zhones MSAP products, is the managed network element closest to the end customer, they are also at the greatest risk for attacks. As a result, service providers are looking for ways to tighten security on these platforms. Mocanas patented Device Security Framework components, including NanoSSL and NanoSSH, helped Zhone further differentiate their MALC family by meeting these requirements with minimal impact on system resources. NanoSSL provides endpoint authentication and protection against eavesdropping, message forgery and interference – all in an ultra-compact, super-efficient package purpose built for high-performance device environments. Mocanas best in-class performance NanoSSH provides secure encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an insecure network while only using a micro-footprint of memory.
“Our device security products are designed specifically to secure network devices and endpoints without impacting application performance or network throughput,” said Adrian Turner, CEO of Mocana. “Theyre also designed to accelerate product development cycles, dramatically reducing development costs. Zhones selection of Mocanas NanoSSL and NanoSSH technologies for securing Zhones product line demonstrates the breadth of our products capabilities as well as their ease-of-use.”
