connectBlue, the innovative provider of wireless industrial and medical solutions, today announced that it has received a new order from Leica Geosystems, a market leader in development and production of high sophisticated geodetic instruments used in engineering and construction environments. The order, valued at several hundred thousand Euro, encompasses the introduction of the long-range Bluetooth Serial Port Module OBS433 into several Leica Geosystems high-end products.

“By increasing the Bluetooth remote control coverage, Leica Geosystems will get improved usability and extreme performance of its field controller,” says Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue. “We have also customized the factory setting of the Bluetooth parameters for Leica Geosystems which will increase their ease of use and sustainability over time.”

To Leica Geosystems, connectBlue has delivered wireless modules with Wireless LAN or Bluetooth technology since 2004. Both the connectBlue hardware and software offer compatibility over different wireless technologies and module generations.

“Thanks to the easy integration of the connectBlue Bluetooth modules, we can substantially shorten our time-to-market,” says Christian Bechtold, Director Procurement at Leica Geosystems. “Also, connectBlue has helped us to achieve our co-existence requirements between all the applied wireless connections GSM / UMTS / Wireless LAN / Bluetooth technology within the latest Leica Viva product family.”

The Bluetooth Serial Port Module OBS433 achieves its exceptional range of 1000 meters through high receiver sensitivity and output power. In order to provide the highest throughput possible, the module supports the Bluetooth Specification v2.1+EDR and is prepared for Bluetooth v3.0 via firmware upgrade. The long-range Bluetooth modules will be used in the Leica Viva product series to exchange survey and live video data wirelessly between surveying instruments and field controllers at high speeds and long ranges.
