Graphical User Interface (GUI) expert Altia has announced that it will be running a one-day workshop at this year's UK Device Developers' Conference.
With hardware provided by Intelligent Display Solutions (IDS) and ST Micro, the workshop will cover the complete development cycle for an embedded GUI, enabling developers to a create a display that is both compelling and intuitive for the end-user, yet tailored to the memory and processing power available.
The UK Device Developers' Conference 2016 is an event for engineers and software developers working in the development of intelligent systems and devices, taking place near Cambridge on the 27th and 28th April. www.device-developer-conference.co.uk. The conference will be co-located with H/WExpo, a conference for hardware developers.
“In an embedded system, the quality, beauty and responsiveness of the GUI speak volumes about what’s under the hood,” said Julian Coates, Northern Europe Business Manager. “In this workshop, we will be sharing our knowledge and experience of GUI design. This will be a chance for developers to spend a day with one of the world’s leading experts in this field.”
Dr. Rene Schumann, European Technical Manager at Altia, will present the workshop. The workshop will cover the complete development cycle from graphics-importation, building and editing the GUI simulation-model, to generating and running the code on targets ranging from low-cost microcontrollers with no RTOS and minimal memory, to embedded Linux platforms, to standard PC-level Windows applications-platforms for early-stage design-validation.
Intelligent Display Solutions (IDS) and ST-Micro will both be sponsors of the workshop, providing the necessary hardware for the hands-on session.
IDS have agreed to sponsor the embedded-Linux platform in the workshop, while ST-Micro will be sponsoring the “bare-metal” part of the workshop.
“We are very pleased to be supporting this workshop at the Conference,” said Adrian Amor, Sales Director at IDS. “GUI development is now an essential skill for an embedded systems engineer, and a great GUI has become a prerequisite to a product’s success. In this respect, I feel sure that the delegates will find this workshop very attractive, informative and productive.”
This workshop is intended for embedded-systems engineers who have already experienced some embedded GUI development challenges, and want to increase their knowledge of available development processes.
Registrants should be ready to bring their own laptop to the workshop, for which minimum requirements will be published in advance; development-tool licenses and virtual-machine kits will be provided to registrants for self-installation during the weeks before the workshop taking place.
