ASSET's Dispatcher for ScanWorks applies tests simultaneously to an unlimited number of circuit boards

Dispatcher slashes the cost of test by reducing the need for multiple testers and enabling multitasking test operators

Richardson, TX (Aug. 4, 2009) – The new Dispatcher for ASSET® InterTech’s ScanWorks® platform for embedded instrumentation manages the application of tests and diagnostics to an unlimited number of printed circuit boards in parallel. In addition, the circuit boards being tested can be local to the ScanWorks platform or on the other side of the globe. ASSET ( is the leading supplier of open tools for embedded instrumentation for design validation, test and debug.

“Dispatcher for the ScanWorks platform is particularly cost-effective in high-volume manufacturing operations or where multiple circuit boards are being tested in an environmental chamber,” said Dave Bonnett, technical marketing manager. “Testing many circuit boards simultaneously or in parallel from one test station can reduce the number of testers needed and it makes test operators much more productive, since they can do a lot more at the same time.”

Dispatcher works in conjunction with ScanWorks’ Remote Instrumentation Controller Model 1000 (RIC-1000), a self-contained intelligent controller that connects a local or remote unit under test (UUT) to the ScanWorks platform over an Ethernet or Internet connection and applies tests or diagnostics on the UUT. For Dispatcher to manage the test and diagnostic process on multiple UUTs, each UUT must be connected to an RIC-1000.

Dispatcher also simplifies the tracking of test results from multiple circuit boards. Test results are formatted as XML files to ease data retrieval and processing. XML files are easily stored on any networked device so that the data can be readily reviewed and processed further if needed. In addition, Dispatcher comes with an application programming interface (API) that simplifies the customization of the user interface or the integration of Dispatcher into a test environment such as National Instruments’ LabVIEW or TestStand.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for a Dispatcher license for applying tests to a single UUT starts at $4,995. Dispatcher will be generally available during the third quarter of 2009. Initially, Dispatcher will support boundary scan test and in-system programming. Support for other embedded instrumentation test technologies will be available soon.

ScanWorks® – The Embedded Instrumentation Platform

ASSET, through its ScanWorks platform, is applying the experience it has gained from two decades as a leading supplier of boundary-scan test tools to the development of open embedded instrumentation tools. The boundary-scan infrastructure that is embedded into chips and circuit boards is one of several technologies that can form the basis for an embedded instrumentation toolset. In recent years, ASSET has significantly enhanced its ScanWorks® platform with embedded instrumentation capabilities such as processor-controlled test (PCT) and tools for Intel® IBIST (Interconnect Built-In Self Test), an embedded instrumentation technology that Intel® and other companies are embedding into next-generation chips and chipsets.
