Dual core processor drives COM Express module with graphics, PCI Express and other I/O

Luterbach, Switzerland, February 14, 2006 -- With the smartModule Express SMX945-L2400, presents a further product in their high-reliable, high-performance smartModule series. The new PC module is the smallest processor module with Intel® Core™ Duo Processor L2400 at 1.66 GHz and 15 watts and dimensions of only 115mmx70mmx15mm(LxWxH). The tiny computer features the highest in fanless operation, supports HDTV and offers four PCI Express lanes. It is based on the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset, which includes the Intel® 82945GM Graphic Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) and Intel® I/O Controller Hub 7-M (ICH7-M). The front side bus supports 667MHz. The computer module provides all standard PC interfaces such as VGA, COM1/2, LPT1, a floppy interface, an IrDA interface, two PS/2 for mouse and keyboard, and eight USB V2.0 ports. As main memory up to 1Gbyte of DDR2 RAM are available. CPU and memory are mounted exchangeable, but are mechanically protected against vibrations and shocks. As all power saving functions of the new chipset are supported, the SMX945–L2400 module consumes only between 10 and 20 watts (depending on performance).

“The SMX945-L2400 from DIGITAL-LOGIC is a highly integrated PC module based on the Intel® Core™ Duo processor and PCI Express” said Rose Schooler, Director of Marketing, Infrastructure Processor Division at Intel® Corporation. “ technology companies such as DIGITAL-LOGIC that deliver innovative solutions based on Intel® processors allow OEMs to accelerate their time to market and reduce development costs.”

“We are proud to be a General Member of the Intel® Communications Alliance and be in a stronger position to better serve our customers with Intel® based solutions”, said Felix Kunz, Chief Executive Officer of DIGITAL-LOGIC. “With access to leading-edge Intel® technologies and the support we obtain from Intel®, we will be able to further accelerate customer design projects for the embedded applications.”

The SMX945-L2400 uses the video controller, which is integrated in the Intel® 945GM Express chipset, and supports up to 128Mbyte video memory and DirectX 9 compatibility. This video controller has two different video outputs, VGA and SDVO/LVDS, to control two different monitors with the same or with different images. The standard version further includes a TV output for HDTV, NTSC and PAL standards, and a High Definition Audio 7.1 stereo sound system with eight-channel output. For the connection of mass storages, a P-ATA and two S-ATA150 hard disk interfaces are available. In addition, all necessary power supplies and advanced ACPI power management functions are integrated. The SMX945-L2400 is equipped with a 10/100Base-T Ethernet controller to access /IP-based LAN or the Internet.

The PC module is supplied by a voltage of 5V and 12V and runs all common , such as Windows® XP, QNX®, , etc. Equipped with a Flash BIOS with dual BIOS option, the SMX945-L2400 allows to boot the from different media such as hard disk, floppy disk, USB, 1394, or LAN. The module operates at a standard temperature range of –20°C to +60°C, but at a lower clock rate, it also operates in the extended temperature range of –40°C to +70°C. The genius feature of the smartModule ensures perfect thermal connection to a sink. Designed for low power consumption and thanks to the high video performance, the SMX945 Express module is the ideal solution for applications in the areas of video processing, video streaming, biometric processing, , home entertainment, and remote management of IT applications.

The new Intel® Core™ Duo L2400 processor combines the benefits of two execution cores with intelligent power management features to deliver significantly greater performance per watt. In addition, the processor meets the needs of a range of embedded applications that demand low power and high performance. The new Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset includes the Intel® 82945GM Graphic Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) and Intel® I/O Controller Hub 7-M (ICH7-M). This new chipset provides greater flexibility for developers of embedded applications by offering improved graphics and increased I/O bandwidth over previous Intel chipsets. The Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset also features remote asset management capabilities, improved storage speed and reliability, and low power consumption.
