Empress Ultra Embedded Database V10.20 – Works on Microsoft’s Windows 7 Beta
No problems in running embedded database on latest Windows OS
Beltsville, MD, January 19, 2009 — Empress Software, home of the Empress Embedded Database, figured that it was worth a chance to see if Empress Ultra Embedded Database V10.20 would work on Windows 7 Beta. And, oh yes, how about on an Intel Atom board with 2GB of memory?
Just add Java, Visual Studio 2005, Cygwin, Firefox, do all the updates, download Empress V10.20 for Windows and keep your fingers crossed. Don’t forget to find PowerShell and enable remote desktop for the tech guys.
The first impression of Windows 7 Beta is the FISH! The Siamese fighting fish on the blue desktop! Once past that, it sort of feels like a simpler Server 2008 mixed with some XP. And it also runs on the Intel D945GCLFAtom board.
To make a long story short, Visual Studio 2005 needed updating, Cygwin spazzed on X-Windows but Empress V10.20 ran its configuration tests no-problemo. Windows 7 ran in about 1GB of memory and on the embedded Atom chip too!
Just released for downloading and testing, Windows 7 Beta is Microsoft’s next-generation operating system for PC users. For embedded developers interested in deployment on PCs, Empress on Windows 7 throws embedded developers an interesting new option for deployment across multiple platforms like Linux and Windows.
"Empress Ultra Embedded Database and the Windows 7 Beta swim beautifully together, straight out of the aquarium," quips John Kornatowski, CEO and President of Empress Software. "We’ve run our full suite of Q/A tests and there’s not a problem in sight. It was that simple."
