eXtremeDB Kernel Mode Embedded Database Grabs eg3.com ‘Editor's Choice' Award

1 year 5 months ago

McObjects eXtremeDB™ Kernel Mode (KM), the first-ever embedded database system designed for deployment in the operating system kernel, has garnered the “Editors Choice” award from eg3.com for exciting technology introduced in the first half of 2008.

Released in February of this year, eXtremeDB-KM enables kernel-based application logic—such as the “rules database” of access control systems—to leverage database sorting, storage and retrieval capabilities without performance-draining context switches. The in-memory eXtremeDB-KM provides features including transaction processing, querying using multiple index types, multi-threaded data access, a flexible database API, and a high-level data definition language.

“With eXtremeDB Kernel Mode, McObject® continues to push the envelope of database management system high performance, and to deliver DBMS advantages such as reliability, stability and simplified development in the most challenging environments. eXtremeDB-KMs potential benefits to real-time applications, and the excitement it has generated, drove its selection for eg3.coms Summer 2008 Editors Choice Award,” said Jason McDonald, senior editor, eg3.com.

As an Editors Choice selection, eXtremeDB Kernel Mode now competes for eg3.coms Readers Choice Awards. In this contest, the eg3.com community votes via on-line survey (available at www.eg3.com/techchoice/) for the most intriguing and promising new products in the categories of Computer-on-module, Embedded Processors, Multicore, Security, and Embedded Software.

“McObjects eXtremeDB was launched to meet growing data management needs in devices and other places once seen as ‘off limits for database systems. Today, eXtremeDB provides a cost-effective embedded database solution in settings ranging from fault-tolerant industrial controllers used in undersea oil drilling, to mass-produced MP3 players, set-top boxes and mobile phones. eXtremeDB Kernel Mode adds the operating system kernel itself to that list of challenging environments served by our embedded database,” said Steve Graves, McObject CEO and co-founder.

“We want to thank eg3.com for the Editors Choice Award, and for the recognition it brings to McObject for helping customers save time and money when addressing their toughest data management challenges,” Graves said.
