Micrium Extends Embedded Component Support to Luminary Micro's Latest Stellaris Microcontroller Family Additions

Demonstrations of uC/OS-II, uC/TCP-IP, and uC/Probe available for Stellaris evaluation kits

WESTON, FL, USA –September 18, 2007 – Micrium, a leading provider of high quality embedded software components, today announced that its portfolio of embedded components has been successfully ported to the full range of Luminary Micro's Stellaris® microcontrollers, including the memory and I/O enhanced LM3S1000 Series and the Ethernet+CAN-enabled LM3S8000 Series introduced to the market today.

“Micrium has a solid track record of providing high-quality embedded products to Luminary Micro's customers,” said Jean Anne Booth, Chief Marketing Officer of Luminary Micro. “Micrium's broad range of embedded components supporting our award-winning Stellaris family of ARM® Cortex™-M3-based microcontrollers has been well received by our customer base.”

Micrium products supporting the latest Stellaris microcontroller additions include Micrium's uC/OS-II real time operating system (RTOS) and uC/TCP-IP network stack. Additionally, Micrium's award-winning uC/Probe embedded systems monitoring tool will support Stellaris evaluation kits, giving design engineers real time insight into the internals of a running embedded system. uC/Probe greatly speeds development and debugging time and can now be used for Stellaris MCUs via on-chip microcontroller serial interfaces such as UART or Ethernet.

“Extending our efforts with Luminary Micro around their entire line of Cortex-M3-based microcontrollers continues to strengthen our ARM-related portfolio,” said Jean Labrosse, president of Micrium. “The performance and features found in the latest Stellaris family additions are an ideal fit for our embedded portfolio, which offers ready to use components, allowing for faster development time of specialty applications like motor control and industrial networking.”

The additions to the Stellaris microcontroller family announced today offer brand new control and connectivity combinations for the ARM® Cortex™-M3 architecture. The new Stellaris LM3S1000 Series features enhanced memory and I/O options and the new Stellaris LM3S8000 Series provides the combination of 10/100 Ethernet MAC+PHY and up to three Controller Area Network (CAN) interfaces on-chip. In addition, a majority of the new Stellaris family members are optimized for low-power applications using a battery-backed hibernation module with a real-time clock and 256 bytes of dedicated non-volatile memory. Now with eighty-five Stellaris microcontrollers to choose from, there are Stellaris microcontroller options to fit the performance, integration, power, and price-point requirements of any industrial application.
