Serious Launches 4th Generation Full-Color LCD Graphic/Touch Modules Using Renesas RZ/A1H MPU
New Renesas RZ/A1H-powered Serious Integrated Module family leverages partnerships with Renesas Electronics America to deliver high-resolution embedded GUI platform
CHANDLER, AZ. – Today, Serious Integrated, Inc. announced initial availability of its 4th generation Serious Integrated Module family, enabling engineers working in a broad mix of application segments to rapidly develop rich, capacitive touch-enabled, graphical user interfaces for the control panels of electronic systems. Serious Integrated Modules are off-the-shelf graphic/touch front panel OEM modules, designed for inclusion in OEM devices through a simple UART and power connection from the existing system. The Serious proprietary SHIP™ rapid GUI development tools can deliver modern-looking GUIs remarkably quickly and easily.
Designers who need a full-featured graphic/touch panel solution for rapid prototyping and production deployment can choose complete, off-the-shelf, capacitive touch Color LCD Graphic Modules in three different LCD configurations: the SIM855 10.1” WSVGA with 1024X600 resolution, the SIM555 7.0” WVGA with 800X480 resolution, and the SIM253 4.3” WQVGA with 480X272 resolution. All three displays support multi-viewing angle (MVA) technology for portrait or landscape usage. The family is powered by the Renesas RZ/A1H MPU for cost-effective TFT connectivity and outstanding graphics performance. The products are fully supported by Serious’ proprietary suite of GUI development tools and middleware, enabling GUI development in as little as a few hours.
“The Serious 4th generation family extends our on-going partnership with Renesas Electronics America,” said Terry West, CEO at Serious Integrated, Inc. “The RZ/A1H MPU enables larger screen sizes and more headroom for higher performance user experiences at attractive price points. As the family is fully supported by the Serious Human Interface™ Platform, including the SHIPTide GUI Development tools, migrating an OEM’s user interface between product generations can be accomplished in as little as 30 seconds.”
“Embedded design complexity is on the rise, while time-to-market windows are shrinking, a combination that is putting a squeeze on designers working with HMI-rich consumer and industrial applications,” said Vin D’Agostino, Vice President, General Purpose Products Unit, Renesas Electronics America. “The new module family from Serious Integrated showcases the full potential of the Renesas RZ/A MPU for these applications, and we’re excited about the user-friendly experience that the Serious module brings to customers.”
The Renesas RZ/A series of MPUs combine a high-performance ARM® Cortex-A9 processor with up to 10MB of on-chip RAM. The large on-chip RAM combined with the ability to execute code in-place from cost-effective QSPI flash memory eliminates the need for external SDRAM, enabling low-power, cost-effective embedded display applications. The RZ/A MPUs can also drive two simultaneous displays at up to WXGA resolution, using on-chip SRAM for the graphics frame buffers.
