SmartBear Expanding Corporate Headquarters with Move to New Assembly Row Campus in Somerville, Massachusetts

Rapidly Growing Quality Management Software Company First Technology Tenant to Assembly Row Neighborhood with Numerous Amenities and Conveniences for Tech Workers

BEVERLY, Mass. – SmartBear Software, the choice of more than two million software professionals for building and delivering the world’s best applications, is expanding its corporate headquarters with a move to the new Assembly Row neighborhood in Somerville, Massachusetts. The move is designed to support the company’s continued expansion while providing workers with easy access to key amenities.

SmartBear’s rapid growth had necessitated a search for more space than it currently has in Beverly, Massachusetts. When new locations were scouted, there were several key criteria. Providing convenient parking and public transit options to employees was deemed a critical requirement. Moving the company closer to the heart of the Boston technology market and providing amenities favored by tech workers similar to those on most West Coast tech campuses were also key considerations. The result, after looking at multiple locations throughout Boston and Cambridge, was the signing as the anchor technology tenant at Assembly Row in Somerville. Assembly Row was designed to complement the legacy of Boston and Cambridge with a mix of shops, restaurants, entertainment, residences, parking, the Assembly Row Orange Line T Stop and offices. Federal Realty Investment Trust owns and operates Assembly Row.

The lease represents a 50 percent increase in space for the company locating to the 4th floor of 450 Artisan Way. With high ceilings, spectacular views of the Mystic River, ground floor shops, and various services, the new campus will assist with the company’s growth while attracting the area’s best tech talent.

“As a rapidly growing software company, we needed to significantly expand our space and the new Assembly Row campus in Somerville is the perfect location where our employees can enjoy its easy access from Boston and surrounding areas along with its many amenities and conveniences,” said Doug McNary, CEO of SmartBear. “Our fun, innovative team will fit right in at this exciting new location, and we are looking forward to being in the heart of Boston’s next technology hub as well as hosting various industry meetings and tech gatherings in our new space.”

“I’m excited that SmartBear has chosen Somerville as its new home, bringing high-quality jobs to our city as the company connects with the tech industries located here in the urban core,” said Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone. “SmartBear’s move brings upper story tenancy to Assembly Row that will support ground-level shops and restaurants, but more importantly, it highlights how Somerville’s embrace of innovation, our planning for smart, transit-oriented development, and our infrastructure investments are creating the quality job growth and commercial expansion the community called for in our 20-year SomerVision comprehensive plan. This further fuels our momentum as part of the regional tech economy, and we welcome SmartBear as Somerville’s newest business.”
