SYSGO Announces Support For Adobe Flash Lite In Embedded Linux Solution
ELinOS, the Industrial Grade Embedded Linux solution from SYSGO to support Adobe Flash Lite 3.1
Paris, Mainz, October 23, 2008 -- SYSGO has been pioneering the embedded Linux market for almost ten years, and its ELinOS product has penetrated many market segments. SYSGO's ability to provide trustworthy solutions for high reliability systems is now increasingly recognized and sought out by major players in fields as diverse as Industrial Automation and Consumers Electronics.
In order to better support innovative applications in these areas, SYSGO is now announcing support for Adobe Flash Lite offering its customers the possibility to develop rich Flash based applications within their embedded systems.
Adobe Flash Lite software is a powerful runtime engine for mobile and consumer electronics devices aimed at both device manufacturers and content developers. With more than 800 Million devices shipped with Flash Lite worldwide, the software is suitable for embedded applications with modest memory constraints requiring minimal resources.
"All our customers interested in Linux also have in mind that their application needs the robustness and reliability of true industrial products," said Ralf Spachmann, Embedded Linux expert at SYSGO. "Having the high level of functionality and richness of Flash Lite combined with the high reliability of ELinOS was an obvious choice both for us and for our customers."
"Creating great visual experiences and interfaces with Linux has traditionally required significant engineering resources," said Anup Murarka, director for Technical Marketing, Mobile and Devices at Adobe.
"By adding Flash to the ELinOS development environment, SYSGO enables the easy, rapid creation of appealing interfaces and applications and opens a greater world of services and developers to their customers."
ELinOS is a Linux based development environment designed for the creation of intelligent devices. Unlike traditional Linux implementations, SYSGO's ELinOS is purpose-built for use in demanding industrial applications. SYSGO has contributed 15+ years of field expertise to making an embedded Linux offering well suited for complex real-world applications. This deep experience also allows SYSGO to back up their Linux customers with world-class support.
ELinOS current v4.2 version includes Kernel 2.6.22, tested and validated on the supported platforms, and incorporates all necessary security patches. The 2.6.22 version brings many improvements in the areas of support of TCP, UDP-Lite, IPv6, and SMP. ELinOS Industrial Grade Linux explicitly supports the needs of industrial automation customers providing solutions for CAN, CANOpen, VME, IPv4/IPv6, EtherCAT, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and many other protocols and stacks. For example, our avionics customers can benefit from our implementation of standards like AFDX, ARINC 429 or MIL-STD-1553. Xenomai is available as a Linux extension if more real-time constraints are required. Many BSPs corresponding to the most successful boards on the market are also included as well as BSPs for virtualization engines such as QEMU (x86, PPC, ARM) and VMware (x86), or for the other SYSGO flagship product PikeOS (x86, PPC, MIPS).
ELinOS 4.2 is available immediately. The five families of supported processors are the x86, PowerPC, ARM, SH and MIPS. ELinOS 4.2 is available for Linux and Windows hosted platforms. The Flash Lite support on ELinOS 4.2 is available immediately.
SYSGO excels in providing operating system technology, middleware, and software services for the real-time and embedded device market. A differentiating capability of SYSGO is the secure PikeOS paravirtualization operating system which is built upon a small, fast, and safe microkernel and supports the cohabitation of independent operating system personalities on a single platform, including ELinOS, SYSGO's embedded Linux development environment. SYSGO supports international customers with services for embedded Linux, real-time capabilities and certification for safety-critical applications. Target markets include Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Automation, Automotive, Consumer Electronics and Network Infrastructure.
