Open Kernel Labs and Sirrix Security Technologies Collaborate to Build Mobile Trusted Computing Platform for Secure Services and Certified Systems

Results of Partnership Highlighted at TRUST 2010 in Berlin

June 22nd, 2010

Berlin (TRUST 2010) — June 21, 2010 — Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), the leading provider of embedded virtualization software for mobile phones and broadband Internet devices, and Sirrix security technologies, one of the leading technology providers of trusted computing solutions, today announced a partnership for mobile trusted computing. The two companies have created a platform capable of running multiple trusted environments and secure services on custom and commercial off-the-shelf mobile (COTS) hardware. The joint solution is designed to meet the secure mobile computing needs of government, defense, financial institutions, and other organizations deploying secure applications. The solution provides and protects mobile access to critical assets, restricted information, and secure services, both on mobile devices and in remote data centers, and the Cloud.

Even as smartphones and webpads become more ubiquitous, government workers and employees at security-focused firms face mandates to use non-standard mobile platforms – devices and software that don’t accommodate life- and work-style preferences. Additionally, these devices impose high acquisition, support and upgrade costs on IT organizations. In this field, dominated by proprietary, highly-purposed hardware and software, the OK Labs-Sirrix collaboration is distinguished by its openness and use of COTS components. The joint prototype will run on readily-available N900 mobile hardware and integrates Sirrix TURAYA™ Security Kernel (encryption, VPN, MTM/Attestation, and Trusted GUI) with the OK Labs OKL4 Microvisor, to host the Sirrix Trusted Mobile Desktop alongside Android, Linux, and other guest OSes in OKL4 secure cells. The joint solution will enable secure services and will target secured enterprise applications, hosting encrypted communications, secure voice and messaging, secure thin client hosting, and other software requiring high levels of trustworthiness.

Sirrix will showcase the companies’ efforts at TRUST 2010 – the 3rd International Conference on Trust and Trustworthy Computing, in Berlin on June 21-23, 2010. Sirrix will highlight its trusted computing architecture built on OKL4 and present a technical paper titled “Toward a Trusted Mobile Desktop” at the event. “The Sirrix-OK Labs solution will let OEMs, integrators, and IT teams build and deploy highly secure and trusted compute loads on standard mobile platforms,” commented Ammar Alkassar, CEO, Sirrix Security Technologies. “Supporting both custom and COTS mobile systems eases rollout of secure services and brings trusted computing to a wider global audience.”

“Our partnership with Sirrix takes Mobile-to-Enterprise virtualization to the next level, enabling secure services across the mobile-wireless ecosystem” said Steve Subar, president and CEO, OK Labs. Our collaboration will deliver a platform that meets the stringent security needs of government, military, and enterprise for trustworthy mobile computing.”
