PIKA Technologies Selects AMCC’s PowerPC 440EP Processor For Its WARP Appliance

Power Architecture processing delivers high-performance media processing and low power for advanced voice and fax applications targeting residential and small-to-medium enterprises

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – March. 30, 2009 – Applied Micro Circuits Corporation [NASDAQ:AMCC], a global leader in silicon solutions to process, transport and store information, today announced that its PowerPC® 440EP processor has been selected by PIKA® Technologies Inc. for its WARP Appliance, an embedded hardware platform that supports IP, voice and fax solutions.

PIKA develops media-processing hardware and software to provide developers with the tools to build advanced IP, voice and fax applications. The company’s WARP Appliance provides a smaller-sized and lower-cost alternative to the traditional deployment platform of an off-the-shelf computer with plug-in voice boards, and has been purpose built for voice-application deployment. WARP is ideal for deploying small-medium sized IP-PBX systems, integrated voice response (IVR) self-service systems, predictive dialing systems, fax servers and many others.

“Our customers demand IP, voice and fax platforms that deliver both robust computing performance and power-efficiency because energy costs and operating temperatures are key factors that determine the operational and market success of their products,” said Terry Atwood, PIKA’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Care. “AMCC’s PowerPC 440EP allows us to deliver on both parameters as its robust performance provides the WARP Appliance platform with superior media processing capabilities without the need to integrate space-hogging and power-hungry cooling subsystems.”

AMCC’s PowerPC 440EP embedded processor offers high performance, design flexibility, and robust features geared to demanding networking and other embedded applications. The advanced process technology and innovative design of the chip provide low power dissipation and a small footprint.

“PIKA Technologies’ innovative development team has built a powerful platform for driving deployment of the company’s voice and fax applications,” said Chris Bergen, Director of Systems Engineering for AMCC. “Platforms such as the WARP Appliance demonstrate the key strengths of AMCC’s Power Architecture processing by delivering media-rich performance in a low-power, small-footprint package.”
