OTTAWA, June 30 /PRNewswire/ — QNX Software Systems Co., a leader in operating systems, tools, and middleware for the embedded systems market, today announced that it has won a Best in Show Award at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) for its role in creating the LTE Connected Car.
The LTE Connected Car concept vehicle, developed by QNX® and Alcatel-Lucent through the ng Connect Program, demonstrates how 4G/Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband access technology will bring a host of new cloud-based applications to the automobile. All software components in the car — including the operating system, touchscreen user interfaces, media players, Bluetooth® stack, handsfree integration, and a virtual mechanic — are based on the QNX® CAR(TM) Application Platform.
The LTE Connected Car was showcased in the FTF keynote address given by Freescale Semiconductor Chairman and CEO Rich Beyer. A smart energy control panel based on QNX technology was also featured in the keynote.
After the keynote, the car was moved onto the show floor where it joined several other demonstrations of QNX technology, including a multicore demo, a smart-home energy demo, and an EtherCAT software demo for industrial applications — all running on Freescale processors.
“We’re honored to be selected from among the many innovative companies at this year’s Freescale Technology Forum,” said Linda Campbell, director of strategic alliances at QNX Software Systems. “The QNX CAR Application Platform embodies our vision of the fully connected automobile, and the fantastic support we’ve received from Freescale, Alcatel-Lucent, and other leading ecosystem partners has been invaluable in bringing this next-generation automotive experience to market.”
The QNX CAR Application Platform provides automakers and suppliers with a set of pre-assembled reference implementations that reduce the risk and cost of building connected in-car infotainment systems. Launched in 2009, the platform is already being designed into 2011 model year vehicles.
