Thermo Fisher Scientific select Pebble Bay Consulting for embedded services

Multi-faceted engagement benefits Thermo Fisher Scientific
timescales and product functionality

March 29th, 2007

Leamington Spa, UK March 2007 – Pebble Bay, embedded services consultancy, has been selected by Thermo Fisher Scientific to provide bespoke software development services to enhance the functionality of the operating system of the Thermo Scientific PROx x-ray product line.

Pebble Bay has been contracted by Thermo Fisher Scientific for a two-pronged project to enhance the low-level foundation code found in Thermo Scientific’s PROx product. Thermo Fisher Scientific develops inspection systems for the food and packaging industry, a time-critical and competitive market.

Pebble Bay was initially asked to enhance the web-based user interface in the Thermo Fisher Scientific PROx product, to support the latest embedded web server technology. Following this, on the same product, Pebble Bay was also asked to improve the robustness of the USB stack in order to support a range of external USB mass-storage devices in a truly “plug-and-play” fashion. These projects required a detailed knowledge both of the embedded operating system and the USB protocol stack, along with the ability to quickly diagnose and correct problems at all levels from the hardware upwards.

“We needed a partner we could trust, and at the right price. After speaking with a number in this area of expertise, we selected PBC for their flexibility, willingness, and proven track record” said David Petrovic, Software Engineer with Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Pebble Bay is located in close proximity to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Development Centre in Rugby, which enabled good collaboration and was a clear benefit to all involved.

“We are pleased to have delivered both projects on-time and within budget for Thermo Fisher Scientific, and we look forward to working with the team again in future” commented Ian Willats, Consulting Director at Pebble Bay.
